Welcome to Jarrod Baniqued’s Newsletter by me, Jarrod Baniqued.
For the basics, I’m a cis straight man and a citizen of the world, at least I like to think of myself as such. I’m an American, born in Sacramento, and due to a variety of circumstances, some related to the housing market, I now live with family in the Philippines. And if you’re wondering how it’s pronounced, it’s JERR-red bun-NEE-ked. (I’ve told my mother that I would have named myself “John”, but I think it’s better if I work with what I’ve given here. The surname is from the northern Philippines, by the way, which means it doesn’t roll off the tongue easily. Sorry, not sorry.)
I’m almost 24 years old, and I’ve been looking for a job for quite a while, except not really. (It’s more like I keep getting overwhelmed with service sector jobs that don’t play to my strengths at all, plus I’m probably depressed—long story.)
I’m autistic. I have quite the imagination. I’m quite shy. This is a bit of a problem, and I’m very sure I will write about it later. I’ve been a netizen for a long time, since about 2006. I haven’t been in the center of many trends and memes, and I’m more of a laggard. So with all that in mind, I hope you’ll be patient with my very wonky perspective.
I’m starting this partly out of desperation, partly out of boredom and flexing my communications degree (BA from UC Davis, March ‘21) and mostly because if I were to post this month, it would be quite an apt birthday gift to myself. (Happy Friday, I guess.) I’m doing this to test my boundaries (and maybe finally be able to pay those student loans without submitting to an overly demanding job market, if I can find enough subs).
Admittedly, I don’t really see any good reliability when it comes to churning out regular posts, so do be patient. I will try my darnedest to get these out. Hopefully I can find an audience.
Also, if you didn’t know by know, I write in a very boring and unoriginal way. I’m also trying to work on it.
Can’t wait to read any comments you might have,
Jarrod
